    About Jean.

I paint in oil and pastels. My studio is my “happy place'', but I discovered the joys of plein air painting. Being outdoors soaking in the sounds, smells, and visions around me is a path for me to really see and interpret my subjects. I delight in landscapes, old buildings, and furniture, especially chairs. Through late April to October, I paint every week with the Mountain Valley Plein Air Painters at a variety of locations in South Central PA. I spend the winters in the Florida Keys and continue painting en plein air with the Art Guild of the Purple Isles for the season.

My painting is influenced by the Impressionists, the Expressive Realists, and the teachers with whom I have been fortunate to study: Carol Begley, PSA, Laurie McKelvie, Kathleen Denis, Thomas Kitts, Michelle Byrne, and Tara Will.

“These works were painted in my favorite mediums, oil and pastel. The subjects range from sites found locally, to the Adirondacks, and to the Florida Keys. Many were painted en plein air. Each painting is accompanied by a story about its creation.” ~ Jean R. Frey
