Painting at
Plein Air Chambersburg.
We are looking forward to seeing you this year
on September 7th 2024
September 9, 2023 was an exciting day in downtown Chambersburg.
After months of planning the first Plein Air Chambersburg event dawned with beautiful light fluffy clouds.
46 artists from throughout our region arrived downtown early in the morning ready to paint.
We greeted them in Founding Fathers Park with coffee, maps and a grab-and-go breakfast.
Soon they were set up and working at sites all throughout the 4 block area surrounding the Square.
Downtown Chambersburg is unique in having an amazing variety of unusual and dynamic sites to paint, from our streams, waterfall and waterwheel; to the Farmer’s Market and attractive storefronts, the central Square with historic courthouse, fountain, Central Presbyterian church’s tall steeple and the 2 stately banks that now house the Franklin County Visitor’s Bureau and Heritage Center; a shady historic cemetery at Falling Springs Church and even a Japanese Garden, housed at the Old Jail.

36 artists from across our community - some Foundry members, but many not -
have created panels which have now been brought together
and assembled to form a large multi-media mosaic painting.
The 36 panels represent diverse artistic expressions unique to each individual artist,
but when viewed together, the work speaks with one voice celebrating the work of the Gleaning Project.
This painting depicts the Gleaning Project gathering pumpkins in 2023.

Women@Work
Women's Work Collaborative Art
The Foundry is celebrated our community's women with a work of collaborative art.
The photo of women at work was broken up into squares that was brought back together to create the image.
Thirty six women artists, Foundry members and many more from the community, spent August creating the blocks to make the image whole. None of the artists have seen the whole image. The whole work was unveiled on Friday September 4th during downtown.
During the two months the piece was in the Foundry viewers were able to sponsor blocks to support WIN. The finished piece can now be viewed at WIN office, Women In Need.
The collection of images collectively assembled is known as an “Exquisite Corpse” and started in the 1920s as a game for artists and writers.
Diversity grant sponsored by First Energy
